Garment Sewing

I learned to sew from my Mema; I was desperate—in the way 15-year-old girls can be—to express individuality and uniqueness that would belie our poverty. And so, Mema tailored my thrift store clothes on a cheap plastic Brother sewing machine. I watched, in awe, until I learned how to do it for myself. I now sew on a vintage Kenmore—all metal and as loud as a train—and an inherited Brother serger.

The clothing I sew now is less about individuality and more about personal style and accurate fit. This selection of projects represents the range of skills I am learning and is not comprehensive.
